03/10/2013 PERSGA team meets HE Djibouti Minister

In the framework of the training workshop on Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement (CME) of the Ballast Water Management Convention, His Excellency the Minister of Urbanism, Infrastructure and Environment of Djibouti Mr. Mohamed Moussa Ibrahim Balalah welcomed at his office the delegation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, PERSGA representative Dr. Mohamed Badran and the regional Consultant Dr. Salim Mograbi.

The meeting was attended by His Excellency the Secretary General of the Ministry Mr. Dini Abdullah Omar. H.E the Minister expressed his appreciation to PERSGA for organizing this important workshop in the Republic of Djibouti and giving the opportunity for the Somali delegation to participate in its activities. H.E stressed on the importance and need for collaborative work between Djibouti and Somalia hand in hand with PERSGA in order to protect the marine environment in general and in the Horn of Africa in particular. He also asked the delegation of Somalia to be the best ambassadors for their country and to transfer what they have learned in the workshop to their colleagues in Somalia and to convey his greetings to His Excellency the Minister of Environment of Somalia when they return home.

The Somali delegation expressed their happiness for the warm reception and hospitality from their brothers in the Republic of Djibouti and showed gratitude to Djibouti and both PERSGA and the International Maritime Organization IMO for giving them the opportunity to participate in this workshop, which was very useful to them.

Dr. Mohamed Badran conveyed the greetings of His Excellency PERSGA Secretary General Prof. Dr. Ziad Abu Grarah to H.E the Minister and thanked him for the active role of Djibouti in organizing this workshop and giving the opportunity for the delegation of Somalia to participate in this PERSGA activity at this level after long absence. He also emphasized the keenness of H.E PERSGA's Secretary General to make every effort possible in order to activate the partnership between all sectors in the region in order to protect the marine environment and maintain its sustainability. He also thanked H.E the Minister for his time and hospitality.

The Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden
