In Saturday morning 14 June 2014, PERSGA Secretary General visited the center of pollution control and oil spill combating, which is operated by a private sector company in Hurgadah, He was accompanied by the director of the Center of Mutual Aid and Emergency in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (EMARSGA). This visit came within the framework of the efforts of the EMARSGA Center to coordinate between the various response centers in PERSGA region and other relevant national entities to keep the Red Sea free of pollution.
The visit came as a response to an invitation to PERSGA Secretary-General received from the response center. Officials at the response center made a presentation in which they elaborated on the capabilities available at the Center as well as practical demonstration in which they reflected their advanced experience of running and operating the response equipment at the time of an emergency.
At the end of the visit, PERSGA Secretary General thanked the operation team and the management of the Response Center and emphasized on the need for more coordination and cooperation between the various centers in the region and the importance of the technical cooperation of the protocol of exchanging of equipment and personnel in case of marine emergencies between PERSGA member states; and the need to prepare for all emergencies to be faced from oil spill or other harmful substances.
