The Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA) in cooperation with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) held a three day national workshop on the Ratification and Enforcement of MARPOL Annex V and Port Reception Facilities.The workshop was held at the premises of the Emergency Mutual Aid Center (EMARSGA) in Hurghada – Arab Republic of Egypt during the period Monday the 25th of August to Wednesday the 27th of August 2014, with the main objective of training target groups on the prevention of marine pollution from ships in Egypt.
The meeting was held under the patronage of the EMARSGA Director Dr. Capt. Mamdouh Meligy. Twenty-two participants representing EEAA and different agencies responsible for marine transport and combating pollution in Egypt attended the meeting. The material for the workshop was presented by an international consultant Marja C. Tiemens-Idzinga (Netherlands) along with experts from PERSGA. Other MARPOL Annexes (I, II, III, IV and VI) were also explained briefly during the workshop. The workshop was highly successful in achieving its objectives.
