16/03/2017 PERSGA held its 17th Ministerial Council Meeting in Amman


The PERSGA Ministerial Council held its 17th Meeting on 16th March 2017 in Amman, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Council includes Ministers responsible for the environment in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden countries, which constitute the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.  

The ministerial meeting, which was preceded by PERSGA Focal Points Session on 14 March 2017, has assessed performance and achievements during 2015-2016, and discussed and approved PERSGA work-plan for the biennium 2015-2016. 

The Ministerial Council has issued and adopted several important resolutions and recommendations, which have mainly focused on: 

  • Approval of the biennial budget and work plan of PERSGA Programs for the next session 2017-2018
  • Commending PERSGA for the substantial work undertaken in executing the Strategic Ecosystem Management (SEM) project in collaboration with the World Bank, which focuses on implementation of ecosystem approach; and encouraging PERSGA to mobilize more collaborative projects from international and regional donors
  • Emphasizing full support of PERSGA member states to PERSGA in its efforts to strengthen and extend its partnerships with international  organizations
  • Supporting PERSGA\\\'s efforts to finalize and adopt the regional protocol concerning cooperation on fisheries management
  •  Approval of the Executive Regulations of the Staff Regulations, as amended in 2017
