PERSGA has held the second meeting of the Regional Working Group responsible for establishing a Port State Control MoU in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The meeting took place at PERSHGA Headquarters in Jeddah Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period April 18th, 19th 2011. The meeting comes in continuation of the efforts started in fulfillment of the Ministerial Decree of PERSGA Board of Ministers number “م هـ - 9/13 10/3/2010”. A first workshop was organized at the Centre of Emergency Mutual Aid in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden – EMARSGA – during the period July 26th – 27th 2010. The first workshop was facilitated by PERSGA coordinator Dr. Mohammad Badran and Captain Emad Islam Deputy Secretary General of the Mediterranean MoU and was attended by a representative of IMO.
A final draft of the MoU has been agreed on during the second meeting and representatives of three countries, who have authorization from their governments, signed the MoU. For other countries that need legislative arrangements PERSGA will be sending the final draft of the agreement in Arabic and English, so that national representatives in the working group would follow up the arrangements needed in the countries and have the MoU signed. For Djibouti the MoU will be sent in Arabic, English and French.
