30/01/2013 PERSGA Environmental Award

On Wednesday, January 30, 2013, the jury of the Environmental Excellence Award in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region has completed deliberation at the headquarters of the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden – PERSGA in the city of Jeddah - Saudi Arabia.

The Aqaba Marine Park- Jordan, HEPCA- Egypt and Mr. Hamza Abdul Muttalib Muhaisin-Jordan were the main candidates for the 2012 PERSGA Award.  

The winner of the Environmental Excellence Award for 2012 was HEPCA – an Egyptian Environmental Conservation Society – with its contribution with the project “The Systems of Mooring Buoys in the coast of the Red Sea”, where this NGO has set up buoys in several dive sites in the region to protect the valuable corals.
According to PERSGA rules, the winner will be honored during the Ministerial Council which will be held in the city of Jeddah at the end of the first week of the month of April 2013.It is worth to mentioning that PERSGA organises the award once every two years in order to encourage outstanding contributions in the field of environmental conservation of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden and promote the concept of sustainable development of marine resources in the region.
