The Environmental Importance of The Mangrove Trees

The Mangrove regions are considered to be one of the most important coastal system that improve the economic and environmental development of the coastal human communities. And also it is the most productive coastal system, which acts as a natural place for mating of several marine resources as same as birds. Also the mangrove regions acts as a unique habitat for several rare kinds of plants and marine resources, also it is protect the beaches that is live on, which resists operators resulted by the sea waves.
There are approximately 25 mangrove regions in the western egyptian coast and its area is more than 500 hectares. The Avicenia marina spreads most over of the region, and the Rhizophora mucronata in the south regions.
And because of the recognition of the mangrove trees by the organization, the project “The Environmental tourism and the development of mangrove trees” was implemented in Hamata region in Egypt, in collaboration with the ministry of environment in Egypt for saving mangrove regions from the harmful actions in the coastal regions in the red sea of Egypt. The project is created as a model that can be followed by other countries. The organization hopes the project is helping to disseminate the importance of the mangrove trees to the interested organizations and how to use its resources in a Sustainable environment and do not destroy the coastal environment that we are all should save and protect it.
Project area is the best area in Egypt because of healthy status of its environmental system , where the trees spread for a distance of 9-11 km and 500 meters width in some places. The mangrove tree covers the delta of Hamata valley that receives the floods coming from the Hamata mountain and the areas around it which provides a clean water sources for the mangrove trees.
The negative effects founds in the mangrove regions is grazing on the trees that growing near the land, also there is a development projects near the mangrove areas which needs a plans for protection before the increasing of the tourism development, where the general organization of the tourism development of Egypt plans the western areas as international tourism area, and the marina will be renewed to be able receive the boats that works in there.
The project mechanism and the output are as the following:

  • Design and settlement the roads that leads to the activity places, Taken into account, where no harm to the region will happen, by using the rocks found in the natural environment.
  • Create car parking, hosting tent and a place to board the boats.
  • Prevent the access to the mangrove areas by the visitors.
  • Installation of a wooden walkway (scaffold) starting from the beach and extends to a length of 27 meters in the water.
  • A hosting tent is created which is in Bedouin style, and it is circular as the nest of the famous eagle in this region.
  • A 3 Flokas was provided designed as the same style as the traditional wooden boats used by the fishers in the region, and it is provided with 2 paddles and a mast with a sail.
  • A fourth big boat was created for the emergency cases (created from fiberglass), and it is 8 meters long and 2.40 cm width.
  • The required equipments are purchased in order to monitoring birds using the available budget (field glasses, Telescopes and cameras).
  • A complete scan has been performed for the mangrove trees region, and all the resident or migratory types has been recorded with its data that found in reports and researches that done before. And all of these data is inserted in an educational publications which is distributes to visitors as a guide.
  • A number of local people are selected to work in the project after several interviews.
It is expected to reach an official agreement with one of the touring sponsors or private organizations that interested in the environment. This agreement includes the management and marketing of the project.
