The Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA), in collaboration with the focal point ( Ministry  of Housing, Urban Development and Environment (MHUDE),  organized a national workshop on Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) 20th - 21st   March  2018 in Djibouti, Republic of Djibouti. This workshop mainly aimed to: 1) provide background on the concept of the MEE of MPAs; 2) present information on the international standard evaluation frameworks and methods used for MEE of MPAs and then; 3) train participants on the WB scorecard used for MEE of MPAs; 4) show the evaluation method/approaches for MEE of Socotra Island MPA, developed by Dr. Zaher Al-Agwan for his doctorate university at an Australian university, as a case study.

 The workshop was held within the framework of the component III of the World Bank (WB) Strategic Ecosystem Management (SEM) project for the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden implemented by PERSGA and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). It was opened by the Secretary General of the MHUDE, in presence of the PERSGA representatives: the coordinator of the SEM project component III (Mr. Bashar Bataineh) and coordinator of PERSGA MPA Evaluation Program  (Dr. Zaher Al-Agwan) who was the instructor of the workshop. About 25 participants from deferent sectors, including sea ports, fishermen union and MHUDE, attended the workshop.
