PRESGA

Global Environmental Facility (GEF)

The GEF has supported implementation of PERSGA SAP in the past. Since 2009, GEF is supporting the implementation of UNIDO-PERSGA joined Project “Reduction of Unintentional Emissions of POPs in the Coastal Zone of PERSGA region. In March 2010, the GEF approved the support of the Strategic Management of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden Project, to be implemented by the WB and executed by PERSGA in the region. PERSGA is also one of the Regional Seas participating in executing the GEF supported GloBallast project, globally implemented by IMO and UNDP during 2008-2012.

World Bank

PERSGA partnership with the World Bank (WB) dates back to 1996. The World Bank was one of the implementing agencies of GEF supported Strategic Action Program- SAP (1997-2002). Collaboration with WB has continued since the conclusion of SAP, culminating in the development of the Strategic Management of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden Project, of which the preparatory phase has been recently launched since February 2011.

Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO)

The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), in complete cooperation with PERSGA is currently implementing a project in the RSGA Region on Living Marine Resources.

United Nations Environmental Programme UNEP

UNEP-GPA is PERSGA's partner for its Land-Based Resources Programme and has provided funding for the regional Programme's activities, including LBA assessments and development of LBA projects portfolio.

UNEP Regional Seas Program

PERSGA has a strong partnership with the Regional Seas Program. PERSGA hosted the Ninth Global Meeting of the Regional Seas Convention and Action Plan, 29th-31 October 2007, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. PERSGA has been the regional partner of RSCAP in several global initiatives, projects and assessments.

International Coral Reef Action Network (ICRAN)

PERSGA has enjoyed a long-term partnership with ICRAN. A significant recent project supported by ICRAN was the installation of mooring buoys at MPAs in Sudan.

Arab League

PERSGA has been officially designated by the Arab League as the responsible agency for implementing ICZM in the Arab world.

CEDARE

According to an MoU agreement between PERSGA and Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), CEDARE will act as an ad-hoc advisor to PERSGA on GIS issues

ISESCO

The Islamic Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO)
PERSGA and ISESCO have forged an MoU that facilitates their mutual cooperation in implementing training activities. ISESCO has regularly supported several workshops of the PERSGA Annual Training Program (usually 2-3 workshops per year) since 2007.

UNEP- Regional Office for West Asia- UNEP-ROWA

UNEP- Regional Office for West Asia- UNEP-ROWA has close partnership with PERSGA since several years. Joined PERSGA and UNEP ROWA activities included collaborative capacity building and technical workshops in PERSGA relevant fields, as well as participation of PERSGA in several UNEP activities through its Regional Office, such as GEO process.

International Maritime Organization (IMO)

International Maritime Organization (IMO) – PERSGA has a well established strong and long partnership with IMO, with regards to PERSGA's Reduction of Navigation and Marine Pollution Risks program activities. The partnership with IMO has particularly been enhanced after inauguration of PERSGA Regional Center for Mutual Aids in Emergency (EMARSGA), whereby an Agreement of Technical Cooperation was signed that has facilitated major collaborative works addressing capacity building in support of EMARSGA operational program in the region.

KAUST

PERSGA in its effort for the advancement of environmental management and conservation forged a partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in January 2009. This young and prestigious institution shares with PERSGA an appreciation for the value of environmental management, research, and technology development of fundamental and applied environmental sciences. PERSGA and KAUST established a cooperative relationship in these areas for the benefits of the wider region of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

IOC

PERSGA has entered into partnership in August 1991 with intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) which works under the auspices of the UNESCO at Paris France. The agreement with IOC intended to promote international cooperation in researching and protecting the marine environment. Both organizations agreed to promote environmental protection and natural resources management in the marine and coastal areas of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. IOC and PERSGA held a series of workshop on sea level fluctuation in the RSGA and Sustainable Environmental Indicator for coastal and marine environment.

WHO

PERSGA cooperation with the World Health organization (WHO) dated back to 2005 in the area of assessment of the magnitude of pollutants offending human health and marine ecosystem of the RSGA. PERSGA always present in the biennial meetings of the CEHA Technical advisory Committee (TAC) which is usually addressed by H.E the Secretary General on areas relating to environmental health issues in the marine coastal area

UNIDO

PERSGA with United Nations Industrial Development organization cooperation dated back to 2005 in the field of combating land based pollution. Currently UNIDO is implementing a GEF project in (4) of PERSGA member countries for the Reduction of Unintentional Production of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). PERSGA has approached UNDIDO for the introduction of best available techniques (BAT) and the best environmental Practices (BEP) for the coastal zone industries as specified in the Stockholm convention; and the production of guidelines for the reduction and elimination of the harmful effects to health and environment of these chemicals and their waste stockpiles.
